My Role: Original Concept Development, Director, Co-Producer, 2nd Camera Operator
Project: In a winning bid, popular language-learning app Babbel chose my original concept for a 3-part reality-style challenge series to add to their growing content library on Youtube.
Challenge: In terms of production, the budget only allowed for a minimal crew (myself, a DP, and a sound recordist), yet we needed to shoot complex, live scenes across multiple locations in Manhattan/Brooklyn and ultimately deliver quality, cohesive footage. Also, the series utilized predominantly Spanish language throughout and neither myself nor my crew spoke the language.
Goal: To craft a series that would be entertaining enough to capture an audience that might not even be interested in learning a new language.
Results: By properly utilizing Babbel staff in lieu of a larger crew, and by bringing in my years of experience in reality TV, the 3-part video series reached a combined total of over 300,000 unique views and ultimately helped Babbel acquire new subscribers.
